Our Retail portfolio now contains 108 shops with over 2,500 volunteers.Your role will make a real difference by helping to raise the vital funds needed to support our frontline work with the most disadvantaged children and young people in England.As a Shop Manager you will manage an Assistant Shop Manager along with a team of volunteers to generate income and maximise sales of donated and bought in stock. You will responsible for the day to day management of the shop which includes sourcing, pricing and merchandising stock along with monitoring sales against target. Assistant Shop ManagerFixed Term 6 Month Contract (with opportunity to become permanent).£17,003 per annum pro rata16 hours per week (to include Sundays and will need flexibility to work additional hours to suit business needs).Location: Whitehaven ShopThe Children's Society has more than 100 shops across the country, with our staff and over 2000 volunteers helping to raise more than £8million last year, which goes towards transforming the lives of vulnerable children and young people. This key role works in our modern Whitehaven Shop, handling the day to day running of a fast paced shop, as well as managing a team of 20 shop volunteers.We are looking for a dedicated Assistant Manager to assist the Shop Manager in maximising sales and to run the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager. A key part of this will be your ability to assist the Shop Manager in the setting of sales and expenditure targets and ensure plans are in place to achieve them.Your key tasks will include management of stock, and assisting in the recruitment, training and retention of shop volunteers. You will be helping in the planning and implementation of internal and external sales promotion as requested by the Shop Manager.KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIESIn order to be successful in this role, you must have experience in customer services. You must have a track record of strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise a team of volunteers. You must also have GCSE English and maths or equivalent and a basic understanding of the retail environment and of working with volunteers.
